Shapeshifters in Tamworth!

DSCF2498So, that time of year again, me and my little dog boarded a train to Tamworth. Despite the weather the turnout was as always, amazing.

A new name to me Aems, love this character.DSCF2460Local ish artist Time, not seen him in action before.DSCF2491Akse P19, arrived even later than me, instantly recognised the emerging face of Tom Neville from Revolution.DSCF2420Cracking piece from Ziner.DSCF2421Rascal, one of the few pieces I’ve got finished shots of.DSCF2426Catch22, it was fascinating watching this guy work.DSCF2346I don’t know the artist, but I really like this. Since been told his name is Ments.DSCF2416Gnasher, forgot his earplugs and fell out with this character, great to see him and Mystique though.DSCF2478 StitchParlee and Demane, was great to meet these guys, this was probably my favourite production. We had a fascinating chat about the early days of the Specials too! DSCF2453Kem, looking a little lonely as Mef was on holiday and Wingy working on a brilliant Rorschach piece.DSCF2320Skema, half the man he was last year ( 😉 ) but still putting up fab pieces and he managed to stick with one this year, unlike the three he did last year!.DSCF2395Zook, another brummie I think, liking his style. DSCF2394The master Title, stunning work as ever.DSCF2459Glimmertwin, just love it.DSCF2473Shab, lovely to see the man himself, I don’t think he’ll forget my little dog in a hurry! I’m very fond of the raven.DSCF2432Love this too.DSCF2433Very nice to see Mr. Steve Edwards, just keeps getting better.DSCF2418Don’t know the artist but I’ve been told his name is Toile.DSCF2345Mono, love this guy, that is all.DSCF2412Fidget, I think.DSCF2411Mig29, I hope, this wall was looking out of this world, gutted I didn’t get to see it finished.DSCF2392Leigh Irvine (Raze), the first or one of the first big jams he’s been to, can’t go wrong with the Mask..DSCF2356CoLor and Corpse worked together on this brain melting piece.DSCF2382Vomit, this just jumps off the wall, brilliant.DSCF2362There was dancing, and loud music, my little dog did not appreciate the music…or skateboards.DSCF2427Polar, not sure where he’s from, but was good to meet him.DSCF2330Freebee2, wonderfully bonkers 🙂DSCF2267The Rusty Alexander, most of the work covering this mobile gallery is by My Dog Sighs, simply stunning.DSCF2307 StitchH2i crew and Surge and friends, made a weekend of it, their blockbuster wall wasn’t completed until the next day.

A fantastic day once again which even the weather couldn’t spoil, although it had a good go. I managed to not get wet, although my feet did look like they had been to Glastonbury. It was good to see so many people I knew and meet many more, I think my little dog helped a little bit. Well done to Vic and New Urban Era for pulling it off again, I’m sure it’s worth all the stress!

My only disappointment with the day was that I had to leave before so much was finished, me and my little dog had to run to the train station, yes run, leg it up 3 flights of stairs to the platform, leaving us both in need of oxygen, to find that our train was delayed. It turned out that the lively weather had blown up a signal box in Derby and created absolute chaos. The delay turned out to be over an hour, I wonder how many of the walls had been finished by then…… On the plus side my little dog was no trouble on the train…20140719_201234

New Urban Era,Tamworth, Heroes and Villains 2013

DSCF3935 Stitch (5000x1120)Don’t know where to start, Tamworth is an awesome annual event, organised by Vic of New Urban Era ,and it was once again amazing. And it’s fair to say that the Sheffield Massive was, well massive….The lush wall above by Jaer, Espre, Ryak and Booms was just part of it.

DSCF3806 DSCF4001There was also CoLor and Foundry representing.

DSCF3985 StitchPawski, Mace and adopted yorkshireman Shoe worked on another stunner.

DSCF3885And not forgetting the talented Duse, pushing his boundaries a bit with this brilliant  Joker piece.

DSCF3734 DSCF3909Skema was having a bad day that was good for everyone else as he fell out with each piece he did, 3 in all and painted over 2 of them, but they all looked great to me.

DSCF3879 DSCF3876 DSCF3853Silen T Bill, whom I believe I was talking to in the Wimpy, did this clever YMCA piece and the Hulk piece is by the charming, as always, Jay Sharples. D7606s’ post boxes made an appearance too and it was a pleasure to meet the man himself.

DSCF3688 DSCF3959Hull Graffiti, like the Dynamo of the graff world, you can see his cans and bits of card, but even if you stand and watch him work and you’ve no idea how he does it!

DSCF3963 StitchMet some lovely chaps from Bristol, Shab, Cage One and Pen, who painted alongside the wonderful Steve Edwards.

DSCF3988Cracking piece from Camz featuring Dastardly and Muttley.

DSCF3990Brave, blooming marvellous.

DSCF3922Glimmertwin produced this Clockwork Orange piece, jaw dropping.

DSCF3928DSCF3934Emptea and Saker produced a fantastic piece of work, that is certainly different to anything I’ve seen them do before and Saker definitely wins my vote for the scariest mask of the day!

DSCF4003Nice to catch up with good people, Crisp and Tim (Brink Arts), love the wall too.

DSCF3999It’s exhausting this painting lark, featuring Sky High, Eureka and others.

DSCF3981Step Tone 39, getting beyond superlatives, I’ll go with Wow!

DSCF3991Ster, fabulous, that is all.

DSCF3977Anybody who knows me knows I’m not generally stuck for words, but when it came to Gnasher, I was. So chuffed to see him in action, so annoyed with myself that I hadn’t got the bottle to talk to him…

DSCF3863I don’t know how that happened, really.

DSCF3937So yes it was a brilliant day saw a lot of lovely people I already knew, met a lot of lovely people I won’t forget and wussed out on talking to Gnasher….. Oh and did I mention that the wonderful Espre painted something especially for me, good job I’m not big headed… much!

2012 Personal Favourites From Around The Country

As it is that time of year, just thought I’d do a quick overview of my year in graffiti. It’s made me realise how lucky I’ve been.

DSCF5387

Leeds, no idea of the artist, went to see some pieces by Replete, which were awesome by the way, but this was an unexpected treat.

DSCF6406

Sand Sea and Spray Blackpool. To try and choose just one from this was horrendous, but it was the first time I saw a piece by The London Police in the flesh and I was well giddy.

DSCF8364

New Urban Era, Aerosol Planet Jam at Tamworth, again the quality of work was mind boggling and ridiculously hard to pick one, but I chose this by Bonzai, because it’s so complex it hurt my head.

DSCF9706

Notts Property in Nottingham,  fantastic day out, met some really nice people, saw this jaw dropping piece from Mono.

DSCF0557

Ashes2Dust Leamington Spa, a really good day spent with good people. I chose this piece by Crom, possibly the coolest dude I’ve ever met.

DSCF7623

Like a trip to Manchester every now and then, nice to see some work by Alice Pasquini.

DSCF3329

The Black Duke Project ‘The Boat That Shocks, Eduk The Diver’ by the Cream Soda Crew, an awesome piece on an awesome boat, that still has lot of space to paint on it!

DSCF2833

At the old brickworks this piece by Toupe, chosen because it’s just a little bit mad.

In spite of everything, have to admit, I got about a bit. Hope I’m lucky enough to see even more in 2013.

New Urban Era/ Aerosol Planet, Tamworth

DSCF8350A famous spot for graffiti in the UK, Tamworth Tunnels is also the Venue for the New Urban Era/Aerosol Planet Graffiti Jam. I figured it would be rude not to go and have a look. I apologise in advance for not being very clued up on some of  the artists here, but I do know Duse WSK above, representing Sheffield.

DSCF8136SHYE131  at workDSCF8145Glimmertwins, I think, jawdroppingly good, gutted that we had to leave before this was finished.

DSCF8226

Kem Mef demonstrating co-operation at its best.

DSCF8229

Cyclops Character by Title, I thought this was amazing too.

DSCF8233Riot 68 and Mono, fantastic and it amused me no end that Mono has the same waxed moustache as his character.

DSCF8271Hull Graffiti creating his magical  creatures. It is amazing to watch him work.

DSCF8296Brave did this piece, I was running out of superlatives in the end, there was just so much wonderful stuff to see.

We had a brilliant day, met a lot of great people and saw lots of amazing graffiti art being produced. The atmosphere was really good, but perhaps that was because there was something in the air and I don’t mean paint fumes. I was so glad that we made the effort to go.

Next years event promises to be even bigger and better, personally I can’t wait!
