Goodnight Mr Heathcote

Once upon a time there was a woman who made an amazing discovery ( to her)… 0f an artist called Phlegm… and the rest, as they say, is history…

A very important part of that history evolves around one building A. R.Heathcote…                                                                    DSCF1628my first urbex….. .        DSCF6347 my first hidden Phlegm and Rocket01…      DSCF6323my first Fauna…      DSCF6333It could even be Phlegms first painting spot, got to be a very early one anyway.

DSCF0171Tekonta Secta, yes really.                                                     DSCF3340Following a partial demolition of the site, the place became a little more airy, but at least it was easier to photograph the ‘Beauty is a Beast’ in all it’s glory 🙂                                                                   DSCF1103The walls were still quite bare, I would visit regularly just to see if anything new had appeared.

DSCF6197Kid Acne was quite a regular visitor too.

DSCF3346But Phlegm was the busiest I think.

DSCF6641More artists began to visit the site, Perms went large.

DSCF7455The Phlegm and Rocket wall was painted over, initially with a Kid Acne x EMA x Drot collab  (there were tears, I can tell you!) and then this appeared by… mmm ..I wonder…

DSCF6640Dscreet painted one of his signature owls, I was quite giddy about this.

DSCF2554Absolutely loved this, it was ages before I knew who did it, Jay Sharples.

DSCF2552Mr Wolf, used to be all over the place.

DSCF2935Never knew for sure, but think this was by Misred.

DSCF8941There was an attempt to shut the site off, Color  registered his disdain, it was open again in no time.

DSCF7463Boaster from Nottingham paid a visit as did many others from out of the Sheffield area.Even though the place was renowned as a crack den, it remained a very popular spot.

It was a nightmare going through photos for this, my biggest ever post, I’ll be bound to have put someone out and I apologise for that. I have 6 years of photos from this place, literally thousands. I really had a connection with it, rats, crack heads and all, and I am gutted at it’s loss.

DSCF3452  DSCF3558

I haven’t included pics from the boards or the Niche wall, they’re worthy of a post on their own though, if anyone’s interested.

Below is a link that tells you about the industrial history of Heathcotes, includes pre-graffiti pics http://www.28dayslater.co.uk/a-r-heathcote-cutlers-sheffield.t21572

Sleeep well Mr Heathcote, I for one will miss you.

So happy that the local artists are keeping me busy, love my city 🙂

Return To The Lego Factory

DSCF0841Had a lovely day out with two friends at one of my favourite urbex/graff spots. The first time I came here it was a cold grey November day and I was on crutches. This time the weather was glorious and I was running round like a spring chicken, well almost! It was great to see that much has changed since my last trip. I’ll apologise in advance for not knowing who most of the artists are. P.S. I have since been informed that the piece above is by Harriet AKA Ruby – Thank you! 🙂DSCF0843I know who these are though an unexpected sight this piece from Sico and Nymph.DSCF0851Eject Ep, love this character. DSCF0857Kombo (?) very colourful whoeverit is. DSCF0898 StitchInteresting combination of the old and the new.DSCF0946 StitchUKS, I’m a big fan of their work, was chuffed to see this here.DSCF0955Really like this. DSCF1038 StitchLove the pigeon, I’m sure I’ve seen his brother in Leeds.DSCF1044 StitchLike the colours in this, although the yellow one looks a bit out of place.DSCF1053Found the remains of an old piece that was inaccessible to me when I was on crutches.DSCF0881Another eye-popper.DSCF0994Lurking in quiet spot, I found this gorgeous painted Painted Dog, by CoLor, I wonder how that got there…DSCF0970Unfortunately I did manage to upset some of the locals, Mr and Mrs Swallow couldn’t wait for us to leave. Apparently, they thought we were a bad influence on the kids. I’m sure we’ll be back at some point, hope they’ll be pleased to see us then  😉

Roadtrippin’

DSCF1732Been on a few road trips recently 2 to a place I’d been before and a third to a new (to me) spot and I went with a few friends this time. Found this Boaster piece, wish I’d seen it intact.

DSCF1736Somehow I managed to miss this magnificent Tekonta Secta piece on my first visit.

DSCF1811Love this wall and the reflection made my day.

DSCF1879Fancy seeing him here, he looks surprised to see me too!

DSCF2433Felt very privileged to watch Fauna Graphic work, and I witnessed her near death experience when some slates from the roof decided to relocate themselves to the inside of the building exactly where she was painting! Dangerous business this sometimes.

DSCF2461The finished piece ‘Nature Nurse’, a great new character I hope to see again.

DSCF2441A dark piece by CoLor at the entrance of a rather strange tunnel.

DSCF2542Foundry was practising a piece for an upcoming huge wall project in Wolverhampton.

DSCF2574Fauna and Color collaboration, Meerkats and a Great Tit, accompanied by a strange chap in a mask, obviously. Favourite shot of that day, when asked if I wanted to see the mask, this was totally not what I expected.

DSCF3208I’d love to know who did this, there’s no sign of a name on it, I like it, a lot.

DSCF3248Fame kills, apparently, set up for  a model shoot perhaps?

DSCF3370I spy with my little eye…

DSCF3377Him again!

DSCF3380Color and Nymph, good to watch her style and confidence improving with each piece she does.

Hopefully will be revisiting these places soon, can’t wait to see what’s new!

Old Places, New Bits

DSCF3517Graffiti and urbex go pretty much hand in hand, although sadly due to its soaring popularity too much information is ending up in the public domain and as a result not many new locations appear these days and if they do the window of opportunity is usually very small before a building is sealed up again. That said, the old favourites still become accessible every now and then and I was lucky enough recently to revisit two places that have a special place in my heart. Clearly I wasn’t the only one, Booms had been here too, as had quite a few others.

DSCF3496Dyson, a piece with a view.

DSCF3493A lovely blue horned monster thing from Rate One.

DSCF3490Teml, I think, somebody will let me know if I’m wrong.

DSCF3484Tekonta Secta in pink, a girly Tek?

DSCF3467Smiley Selasie, not a regular contributor, or perhaps I’m looking in the wrong places.

DSCF3463Color x Booms an excellent combination.

DSCF3534Shrooms by Nymph.

DSCF3527One of Coloquixs’ growing number of beautiful cat ladies, and this one is in extra large!

DSCF3509Is it me or are these cats starting to take over the world?

DSCF3455On my way back I spotted this piece by Rayna, a nice little find. Looking forward to what I may find next…
