Birmingham City of Colours

So me and my little dog (who had chronic wind by the way!) got on a train to Birmingham to see what all this City of Colours business was all about. I have to say that not having been to Brum on a graff mission before I was instantly pleasantly surprised and actually veered off the COC path for a couple hours looking at all there was to see, and there was a lot, I’ll cover that in a separate post. ¬†DSCF3770This lovely lady by¬†N4T4 was the first official COC piece that I saw.DSCF4001 StitchThis wonderful board wall was not an ‘official’ part of COC but hey it’s not a bad thing that everyone wanted to be involved.DSCF4022 StitchTizer and Gent 48 among others joined in the fun.DSCF4046The amazing work of¬†Jimmy C, I’ve never seen it up close before, stunning.DSCF4047Dscreet, love all his work but my favourites are the owls.DSCF4058Spotted at the Custard Factory.DSCF4070Everywhere I turned there was a wall being painted.DSCF4101 StitchNHS crew.DSCF4111Corpse, the largest one I’ve seen.DSCF4125Loved this ladys’ work apologies for not knowing her name.DSCF4148Philth, on form as always.DSCF4154The Stencil Shed, not his real name, and I didn’t see a stencil either.DSCF4158Ennui, gutted I didn’t get to see this finished.DSCF4167 StitchMore awesomeness.DSCF4172I’m sure he didn’t do all of this with a pen.DSCF4357Skema, paintaholic ¬†ūüôāDSCF4383Enzime, really like this.DSCF4390Bill Giles and PM(?)DSCF4410Andy Council, sponsored by Mr Whippy ūüėČDSCF4445Steve Edwards beautiful study of Kingfishers playing leapfrog.DSCF4453Lost Souls epic production.DSCF4456 StitchSPZero76, not just a figment of my Instagram!DSCF4461 StitchMade You Look, yes it did.DSCF4463Lisk Bot, very fond of these handsome robots.DSCF4480Rmer1, blooming marvellous.DSCF4482Loved this…DSCF4496….and this…DSCF4507Si2, I’m sure he’d not arrived by the time I went home, but he must have been there somewhere.DSCF4529Delightfully different.DSCF4192CoLor, Eug, Corpse and Tekonta Secta fantastic collaboration.DSCF4177Privileged to see Hoakser in action.DSCF4412 StitchTitle and Jim Vision, I’m running out of superlatives!DSCF4532Mila Ks’ luscious ladies guarding the entrance to the Custard Factory….

….There was more, much more, so much I didn’t even get to see all of it. For a first attempt I would say this was a roaring success, and City of Colours 2 is already booked in for next September. Congratulations to the organisers for a spectacular event. I’m sure I’ll be back, not sure about the dog though, had to sit in the bike racks on the train home…

Shapeshifters in Tamworth!

DSCF2498So, that time of year again, me and my little dog boarded a train to Tamworth. Despite the weather the turnout was as always, amazing.

A new name to me¬†Aems, love this character.DSCF2460Local ish artist¬†Time, not seen him in action before.DSCF2491Akse P19, arrived even later than me, instantly recognised the emerging face of Tom Neville from Revolution.DSCF2420Cracking piece from Ziner.DSCF2421Rascal, one of the few pieces I’ve got finished shots of.DSCF2426Catch22, it was fascinating watching this guy work.DSCF2346I don’t know the artist, but I really like this. Since been told his name is Ments.DSCF2416Gnasher, forgot his earplugs and fell out with this character, great to see him and Mystique though.DSCF2478 StitchParlee and Demane, was great to meet these guys, this was probably my favourite production. We had a fascinating chat about the early days of the Specials too!¬†DSCF2453Kem, looking a little lonely as Mef was on holiday and Wingy working on a brilliant Rorschach piece.DSCF2320Skema, half the man he was last year ( ūüėČ ) but still putting up fab pieces and he managed to stick with one this year, unlike the three he did last year!.DSCF2395Zook, another brummie I think, liking his style.¬†DSCF2394The master¬†Title, stunning work as ever.DSCF2459Glimmertwin, just love it.DSCF2473Shab, lovely to see the man himself, I don’t think he’ll forget my little dog in a hurry! I’m very fond of the raven.DSCF2432Love this too.DSCF2433Very nice to see Mr.¬†Steve Edwards, just keeps getting better.DSCF2418Don’t know the artist but I’ve been told his name is Toile.DSCF2345Mono, love this guy, that is all.DSCF2412Fidget, I think.DSCF2411Mig29, I hope, this wall was looking out of this world, gutted I didn’t get to see it finished.DSCF2392Leigh Irvine (Raze), the first or one of the first big jams he’s been to, can’t go wrong with the Mask..DSCF2356CoLor and Corpse worked together on this brain melting piece.DSCF2382Vomit, this just jumps off the wall, brilliant.DSCF2362There was dancing, and loud music, my little dog did not appreciate the music…or skateboards.DSCF2427Polar, not sure where he’s from, but was good to meet him.DSCF2330Freebee2, wonderfully bonkers ūüôāDSCF2267The Rusty Alexander, most of the work covering this mobile gallery is by My Dog Sighs, simply stunning.DSCF2307 StitchH2i crew and Surge and friends, made a weekend of it, their blockbuster wall wasn’t completed until the next day.

A fantastic day once again which even the weather couldn’t spoil, although it had a good go. I managed to not get wet, although my feet did look like they had been to Glastonbury. It was good to see so many people I knew and meet many more, I think my little dog helped a little bit. Well done to Vic and New Urban Era for pulling it off again, I’m sure it’s worth all the stress!

My only disappointment with the day was that I had to leave before so much was finished, me and my little dog had to run to the train station, yes run, leg it up 3 flights of stairs to the platform, leaving us both in need of oxygen, to find that our train was delayed. It turned out that the lively weather had blown up a signal box in Derby and created absolute chaos. The delay turned out to be over an hour, I wonder how many of the walls had been finished by then…… On the plus side my little dog was no trouble on the train…20140719_201234

New Urban Era,Tamworth, Heroes and Villains 2013

DSCF3935 Stitch (5000x1120)Don’t know where to start, Tamworth is an awesome annual event, organised by Vic of New Urban Era ,and it was once again amazing. And it’s fair to say that the Sheffield Massive was, well massive….The lush wall above by Jaer, Espre, Ryak and Booms was just part of it.

DSCF3806 DSCF4001There was also CoLor and Foundry representing.

DSCF3985 StitchPawski, Mace and adopted yorkshireman Shoe worked on another stunner.

DSCF3885And not forgetting the talented Duse, pushing his boundaries a bit with this brilliant  Joker piece.

DSCF3734 DSCF3909Skema was having a bad day that was good for everyone else as he fell out with each piece he did, 3 in all and painted over 2 of them, but they all looked great to me.

DSCF3879¬†DSCF3876¬†DSCF3853Silen T Bill, whom I believe I was talking to in the Wimpy, did this clever YMCA piece and the Hulk piece is by the charming, as always, Jay Sharples. D7606s’ post boxes made an appearance too and it was a pleasure to meet the man himself.

DSCF3688¬†DSCF3959Hull Graffiti, like the Dynamo of the graff world, you can see his cans and bits of card, but even if you stand and watch him work and you’ve no idea how he does it!

DSCF3963 StitchMet some lovely chaps from Bristol, Shab, Cage One and Pen, who painted alongside the wonderful Steve Edwards.

DSCF3988Cracking piece from Camz featuring Dastardly and Muttley.

DSCF3990Brave, blooming marvellous.

DSCF3922Glimmertwin produced this Clockwork Orange piece, jaw dropping.

DSCF3928DSCF3934Emptea and Saker produced a fantastic piece of work, that is certainly different to anything I’ve seen them do before and Saker definitely wins my vote for the scariest mask of the day!

DSCF4003Nice to catch up with good people, Crisp and Tim (Brink Arts), love the wall too.

DSCF3999It’s exhausting this painting lark, featuring Sky High, Eureka and others.

DSCF3981Step Tone 39, getting beyond superlatives, I’ll go with Wow!

DSCF3991Ster, fabulous, that is all.

DSCF3977Anybody who knows me knows I’m not generally stuck for words, but when it came to Gnasher, I was. So chuffed to see him in action, so annoyed with myself that I hadn’t got the bottle to talk to him…

DSCF3863I don’t know how that happened, really.

DSCF3937So yes it was a brilliant day saw a lot of lovely people I already knew, met a lot of lovely people I won’t forget and wussed out on talking to Gnasher…..¬†Oh and did I mention that the wonderful Espre painted something especially for me, good job I’m not big headed… much!

Sharrow Graff Jam 2013

DSCF2241Skema and Apps travelled up early from Walsall to take part in this years Jam, producing a stunning Star Wars themed collaboration. Perhaps it was part of a cunning plan to make sure they got finished sooner and didn’t fry like the rest of us, because it was certainly a scorcher.

DSCF2318Meth looking very dapper as he worked on a piece in his trademark style.

DSCF2267Mis Red, not been out and about as much as I’d like to see, produced a lush cats and mouse piece, hope there will be more soon.

DSCF2321Trik9, excellent as always.

DSCF2316Xhastexo and Bine, a winning combination, fuelled by Budweiser!

DSCF2334DSCF2332DSCF2330Bob, Public Offender and I’m not sure who, painted some of the smaller panels on the outside of the ball court.

DSCF2314I like this and wish my reading of letters was better, so I could tell you who it was.

DSCF2296Mr Ryak, always nice to see.

DSCF2340MTH Crew, great to see them in Sheffield, a really talented bunch.

DSCF2840Kosy, cannot tell you how happy I was that he came and did a piece at the jam and that I met him and he was great!

DSCF2834Si2, Hull Graffiti, I can watch this guy paint all day he’s like a magician, even if you’re watching his every move, you still don’t know how he does it.

DSCF2337Five Five in action.

DSCF2837Such, organiser of the graff jam, love the colours in this.

DSCF2842Lone and Bern key artists at the jam…DSCF2843…as is Kode it wouldn’t be the same without them.

DSCF2831Last but by no means least Pawski, Shoe and Mace, a force to be reckoned with. A fantastic piece, again, can’t wait to see what they pull out of the bag for Tamworth.

So yes all in all a good day out, met lots of people, got burnt to a crisp, saw some wonderful graffiti/art, got a Booms piece of my own and had some fabulous indian food, does it get any better than that? Probably not…

P.S. Apologies to any artist not featured here, there was just too much!

Street Fusion, Brink,Kenilworth, May 11th

Managed to bag a lift with some Sheffield chaps in a car with a wankel engine and off we went to Kenilworth.

DSCF9225It should be standard at these events that the name of the artist is written on the wall where they are to paint, so that I know who they are, I was very pleased. Tim at Brink Contemporary Arts is very good at this kind of thing, organising a cracking event and making people happy.

DSCF9446Good to see Kilo Sinstars Fba in action last time I saw him was at a jam in Sheffield last year.

DSCF9524Steve Edwards lovely guy with a distinctive style, nice to put a face to a name.

DSCF9586Binty Bint wore the smartest and most co-ordinated outfit on the day really nice to see her do her stuff. Camz and Moe. new to me, did 2 great pieces and I will be looking out for them in the future. Oh, and yes we had the odd spell of rain.

DSCF9606Tokes, Rascal, Apps, Reas, Kilo, Skema, Hush, Crom, Title and Vomit, what a wall. awesome.

DSCF9622Hush, Crom, Title and Vomit, bit more of a close up.

DSCF9527Crysp, good to see him again, missed his lovely lady though.

DSCF9588Tokes, Rascal, Apps and Reas, stunning, running out of words for how good the quality was, but trust me it was good.

DSCF9632The Sheffield posse of CoLor Art, Duse and Pawski pulled off 2 stunners on the day.

DSCF9629Simon75 worked on this cube concept that was sadly not finished by the time we left, the weather and the fact that he had to build the boxes first probably didn’t help, looked really cool though.

DSCF9619This piece by Sed was looking great  and I think it was nearly done as we left.

DSCF9481There were also live acts on throughout the day, they’ve got some real talent round them parts.

DSCF9597All in all it was a fantastic day, that the weather didn’t spoil. Went to Kenilworth with some great people I am proud to call friends and hopefully made quite a few more while I was there. Tim was an absolute star as always, can’t wait to see what he organises next!
