Goodnight Mr Heathcote

Once upon a time there was a woman who made an amazing discovery ( to her)… 0f an artist called Phlegm… and the rest, as they say, is history…

A very important part of that history evolves around one building A. R.Heathcote…                                                                    DSCF1628my first urbex….. .        DSCF6347 my first hidden Phlegm and Rocket01…      DSCF6323my first Fauna…      DSCF6333It could even be Phlegms first painting spot, got to be a very early one anyway.

DSCF0171Tekonta Secta, yes really.                                                     DSCF3340Following a partial demolition of the site, the place became a little more airy, but at least it was easier to photograph the ‘Beauty is a Beast’ in all it’s glory 🙂                                                                   DSCF1103The walls were still quite bare, I would visit regularly just to see if anything new had appeared.

DSCF6197Kid Acne was quite a regular visitor too.

DSCF3346But Phlegm was the busiest I think.

DSCF6641More artists began to visit the site, Perms went large.

DSCF7455The Phlegm and Rocket wall was painted over, initially with a Kid Acne x EMA x Drot collab  (there were tears, I can tell you!) and then this appeared by… mmm ..I wonder…

DSCF6640Dscreet painted one of his signature owls, I was quite giddy about this.

DSCF2554Absolutely loved this, it was ages before I knew who did it, Jay Sharples.

DSCF2552Mr Wolf, used to be all over the place.

DSCF8941There was an attempt to shut the site off, Color  registered his disdain, it was open again in no time.

It was a nightmare going through photos for this, my biggest ever post, I’ll be bound to have put someone out and I apologise for that. I have 6 years of photos from this place, literally thousands. I really had a connection with it, rats, crack heads and all, and I am gutted at it’s loss.

DSCF3452  DSCF3558

I haven’t included pics from the boards or the Niche wall, they’re worthy of a post on their own though, if anyone’s interested.

Below is a link that tells you about the industrial history of Heathcotes, includes pre-graffiti pics http://www.28dayslater.co.uk/a-r-heathcote-cutlers-sheffield.t21572

Sleeep well Mr Heathcote, I for one will miss you.

Keep thinking there’s not a lot happening on the Sheffield Scene at the moment, but it is, there’s just a little more legwork to catch it all, oh well, I guess I could do with the exercise!

Sleep well George. x

Tis The Season….

Due to crappy internet, Christmas and bad weather, not got around to posting this even though I started it at the beginning of December. Luckily it has been a bit quiet recently so hopefully I won’t have missed too much out.DSCF6012Love this quirky little chap by Mikk Murray. DSCF6005Spotted this local legend putting the finishing touches on this.DSCF6002And Britney did it again. Hope everyone has had a very Merry Christmas, thanks for your support over the past year!

Art In The Garden 2

DSCF5265For the second year running the wonderful people at the Nursery Tavern on Ecclesall Road held the Art in the Garden jam organised by My Life Project. A great turn out once again, with a few new faces, along with the local artists.DSCF5263Trik9 took a break from sorting his exhibition to join the fun.DSCF5253Great to see Bine in action too.DSCF5248Good to see my old friend on it, no longer resident in Sheffield but always turns up to a jam. DSCF5232Black, I think, lovely chap!DSCF5260 StitchMeth, awesomeness inspired by the Arctic Monkeys’ lyrics, and an amazing Ice Cube portrait by Pawski.DSCF5363CoLor made a colourful splash as always.  🙂 DSCF5368 (2)Hadn’t seen Espre in ages, really good to see him, bangin’ piece too.  DSCF5366Trik9 finished piece.DSCF5255Britney came and did her thang, what a star!DSCF5369 StitchA feast for the eyes.DSCF5367Hyro, finished piece, seen some of his work in Leeds I think, I’ve got a thing about pigeons, many people hate ’em, but not me.DSCF5361The only piece not finished on the day was by Kisk, but seeing as he was the one who organised the whole event and one very busy chap with his work at My Life Project at the best of times, I can let him off, this time…..

Art in the Garden will be on again next year, try and make it if you can, it’s a really nice chilled day out. But in the meantime check out MLP they are involved in some fantastic community projects and workshops.

Happy October!

DSCF5031After 2 weekends lurking in Birmingham and a broadband connection that keeps feeling nostalgic and replicating the golden age of dial up internet, I find I’ve got a bit of a backlog. So this is a larger than normal Sheffield post while I try to get back on track.

Stickers, some people hate them, I love them, especially when there’s little collections of them, this set includes D7606, C3, Rubix, Zabou and Greenz.DSCF5025Brayk, a man of many words. DSCF5010 StitchDouble Meth, twice the fun!DSCF5003Byne, been a bit quiet lately, working on a new project perhaps.DSCF5002Like this, don’t know who it is though.DSCF4974Part of the wonderful Rocket01 and Mila K collaboration piece. Tour de Graff

DSCF2061While the many were watching mad men on bicycles I had a little wander. Got to this just after Meth had finished it. DSCF2058Nice bit of Bob.DSCF2054Byne and Haste are really on it at the moment.DSCF1925Interesting collaboration between Casino and Desmond, definitely different.DSCF2097D7606 has added another little yellow piece to this extremely very busy doorway. DSCF2102Kosh-9s definitive canine.DSCF2129 StitchaWas good to catch up with Burn and Kode of TCM as they finished this awesome wall, sadly Rackone had left before I got there.DSCF2146Love these cheeky chappies!DSCF2161This simply stunning piece featuring Gail, the dominatrix, from Sin City is another creation by Surge. DSCF2202Eug going large, I was amazed that the scary baby was still there by the time I got to it, but it is pretty firmly attached.DSCF2196A topical cracker by Rocket01 appeared a few days after the Tour de France had left.DSCF2191Not sure of the names for this one.DSCF2185Rateones’ scary cyclops, lurking in the darkness.DSCF2213 StitchThis is going to be awesome, can’t wait to see it finished.

Sharrow Jam 2014

DSCF1828I don’t know why it’s taken me so long to put this post together, but it has. The jam at the ball courts, Sheffields biggest graff event on the calendar, was as always well attended with many of the great and the good from here and further afield turning up to paint.  Byne and Haste were on it, in the same spot as last year, I believe.DSCF1825Iron Man being wonderfully recreated by Mace.DSCF1833Ryak, dressed appropriately for the weather,as were many others, because it was blooming hot!, working on their signature pieces.DSCF1845Si2, Hull Graffiti working his magic again, I’m so glad he likes coming to this city.DSCF1843Kosh painting a pooch.DSCF1854Trik9, having a little dancing interlude.

Only paid a flying visit to the jam on the day, due to having a very hot dog with me! Here’s some finished masterpieces.DSCF1966Si2 Hull Graffiti.DSCF1971 StitchMeth, CoLor, Kode and Lone.DSCF2002Byne and Haste.DSCF2003 StitchMTH, Irek Onger and Suer.DSCF1826Surge.DSCF1834Sone.DSCF1860Haven’t got a decent shot of this complete due to the goals being put back up, don’t know the artists name either.DSCF1994Cantastic Art.DSCF1852This one was spoilt by the goal too.DSCF1855I don’t know the names of these guys, sorry.DSCF2009 StitchTrik9, Prone and Xanone.DSCF1941Pawski and Shoe.DSCF1951Public Offender.DSCF2036Open and Link.DSCF1987 StitchRyak and ?.DSCF2042Core.DSCF1948And finally…

Sadly, as much as this is an annual event, so too is the dogging of some of the pieces as soon as the jam is over, lucky there was some star who came and retouched them all…… warms the cockles of my heart! 🙂

Derby Graff Jam : Court In The Act

DSCF1267Had a little trip over to Derby for the first ‘Court in the Act’ event. The above piece, by Tekonta Secta, greeted us on our arrival.DSCF1269Sheffield was well represented, Casino was in attendance.DSCF1282As were Xhastexo and Byne.DSCF1284Plenty of local talent was on display too. DSCF1289Deze, some names were shamelessly stolen from the Derby Graff page on Facebook 😉 https://www.facebook.com/graffitiderby?fref=tsDSCF1293Lisk Bot with one of his wonderful creations.DSCF1294I think this was an old piece, loving the style.DSCF1295An eye-catching piece by Repz.DSCF1324Rise, this was one of favourite pieces on the day.DSCF1336CoLor Art was there too to take on the container challenge, I think he won.DSCF1351Last saw this writers work at Russells Youth Club, great to see him in action again.DSCF1353Rews another local lad I think.DSCF1357Nice piece by Peach, good to see her trying different things.DSCF1359Rate One knocked out this cracking piece, not bad at all for his first paint at a jam.DSCF1349Byne and Xhastexo were asked to paint a car by nearby resident. Local children were very concerned that they had permission to do this, and even though the artists assured them they did, they still felt the need to check with the car owner as well!DSCF1365Gutted that we had to leave before the paper came off.DSCF1300Apologies to Lisk Bot for being one of the many who asked where the robot was……he was hiding all the time! 😉

Really enjoyed this little jam, hope there will be another one soon, and well done to Jay for organising it!

“When are you going to stop writing on the walls and make some money”

DSCF0593Jaers very clever tribute to Beat Street, with a little help from Kisk, recreating a piece by Ramon whose work was tagged by the infamous Spit! Must confess I haven’t seen this film, I’ll put it on my list.DSCF0096Eug x Mila x CoLor Art, quite a busy trio lately, love this….DSCF0221…And this by Eug x Mila x Color too!DSCF0192A taster of Mila Ks’ secret Konfess Exhibition, featuring the seven deadly sins. To appreciate this fully you should blink rapidly to recreate the strobe effect, that was brilliant but slightly disorienting on the day!DSCF0177Bine x Xhastexo, love the mixture of styles with these guys.DSCF0157Alien by Mase, stunning awesomeness!DSCF0151Marilyn by Pawski, his best yet in my opinion, simply jaw dropping.DSCF0484CoLor Art painted this handsome Troll, my new girl Stella is keeping him under control, I’d wanted her to sit with Alien, but he was far too scary 😉 DSCF0584 StitchI’ve an idea who did these, not least because I saw them doing it, but I’m not risking getting the names wrong. DSCF0052Obviously the Volt sticker is by Volt, but I have no clue as to who did the character.DSCF0234And finally this curious stencil, it’s odd but I like it.

My next post will have a slightly Antipodean flavour, good times 🙂
