Goodnight Mr Heathcote

Once upon a time there was a woman who made an amazing discovery ( to her)… 0f an artist called Phlegm… and the rest, as they say, is history…

A very important part of that history evolves around one building A. R.Heathcote…                                                                    DSCF1628my first urbex….. .        DSCF6347 my first hidden Phlegm and Rocket01…      DSCF6323my first Fauna…      DSCF6333It could even be Phlegms first painting spot, got to be a very early one anyway.

DSCF0171Tekonta Secta, yes really.                                                     DSCF3340Following a partial demolition of the site, the place became a little more airy, but at least it was easier to photograph the ‘Beauty is a Beast’ in all it’s glory 🙂                                                                   DSCF1103The walls were still quite bare, I would visit regularly just to see if anything new had appeared.

DSCF6197Kid Acne was quite a regular visitor too.

DSCF3346But Phlegm was the busiest I think.

DSCF6641More artists began to visit the site, Perms went large.

DSCF7455The Phlegm and Rocket wall was painted over, initially with a Kid Acne x EMA x Drot collab  (there were tears, I can tell you!) and then this appeared by… mmm ..I wonder…

DSCF6640Dscreet painted one of his signature owls, I was quite giddy about this.

DSCF2554Absolutely loved this, it was ages before I knew who did it, Jay Sharples.

DSCF2552Mr Wolf, used to be all over the place.

It was a nightmare going through photos for this, my biggest ever post, I’ll be bound to have put someone out and I apologise for that. I have 6 years of photos from this place, literally thousands. I really had a connection with it, rats, crack heads and all, and I am gutted at it’s loss.

DSCF3452  DSCF3558

I haven’t included pics from the boards or the Niche wall, they’re worthy of a post on their own though, if anyone’s interested.

Below is a link that tells you about the industrial history of Heathcotes, includes pre-graffiti pics http://www.28dayslater.co.uk/a-r-heathcote-cutlers-sheffield.t21572

Sleeep well Mr Heathcote, I for one will miss you.

Living It Up In Leicester

I’ve had a couple of visits to Leicester and surrounding areas recently. Initially I hadn’t been keen on the idea of the trip, didn’t think there would be much to see, how wrong I was…DSCF0394Ample, great to find some of his work on his home turf. DSCF0398I would dearly love to know who did this, I think it’s a few years old, but I love it.DSCF1758 Sweet 🙂DSCF1781Fantastic, this reminds me of photos I’ve seen of graffiti in New York. DSCF1867So much good stuff. DSCF1904Mono x Kaption, surreal. DSCF1926Love this one too! It’s fair to say that Leicester was pretty awesome, I have barely posted a fraction of the photos there was just so much, it was amazing. And yes, this post is a bit Mono heavy, I make no apology for that, he’s all over the place and he’s so good. Some of the spots are not really close together, but should you have access to a car and a few hours to spare, it’s well worth the trip  🙂

Summer’s Postponed!

Due to bad weather Sharrow Festival is postponed until 22 August, gutted, but I suppose I should make the most of getting up to date with  sorting my photos.  DSCF3436D7606 waiting for a call from Sid and Nancy on the other side.DSCF3265Found this while hunting dragons. DSCF3252 StitchA few weeks ago, I spotted a mural I hadn’t seen before in my fair city, by two of my favourite none Sheffield artists, Kid30 and Boaster. So I proudly, feeling quite pleased with myself, posted the pic on Instagram, and Boaster says “Did you get a picture of the dragon?”! There’s a dragon?….Well it took a while, but I got there in the end, well chuffed! 🙂DSCF3244I thought this was Cantastic Art, turns out I was right, had to happen one day! DSCF3197 StitchFoundry and See(the rarely seen! 😉 ) collaboration, need more of these. DSCF3188Stunning Octopus by CoLor. DSCF2923PeteFowler, a Welsh Artist, came to Sheffield and made this. Alex Turner, Phil Oakey, ? , Joe Elliot maybe?

DSCF2917C***face by Obit, I know I should know better, but I absolutely love it! DSCF2915Kisk x Meth x STOG x Trik9, good to see these guys keeping busy. I photographed this in rush hour traffic and do have to thank various motorists for not running me over and one even stopped so I could get a clear shot!DSCF2904I don’t know who did this, but I think it’s great. DSCF2886Perhaps this post should come with a Parental Advisory rating! DSCF2882Some feeling the green.DSCF2859Like this, whatever it says 🙂 DSCF2832Gums, simple but effective and always make me smile 🙂DSCF2813 StitchDenta x Earth x Teml, probably….DSCF2802Pawski and Shoe go seriously large with this wonderful piece on a pretty unusual canvas. My Milkshake Brings All The Boys To The Yard…

DSCF7315 StitchThis is what I’ve seen on very recent expeditions. Sour, pushing boundaries with this piece that looks like it’s raised up from the wall.DSCF7286Alex Ekins, little fox, lovely.DSCF7318 StitchKid Acne x Petro, for reasons I don’t understand, a bit of a ‘marmite’ wall.DSCF7381 StitchH2i (Pawski, Mace, Mars) and TIO (Gzos, Jaer) came together for this fantastic tribute marking the tragic extinction in the wild of the Black Rhino.DSCF7454Trex, not a regular contributor to city centre walls, more usually seen on the outskirts. Catching up

DSCF6772Some of the pieces shown have already disappeared under the Halloween walls, but they’re very worthy of a viewing here. I don’t know this Gusk, a visitor I think, but I like it.DSCF6779Gzos, holy cow!DSCF6780 StitchMTH had paid a visit, not sure of the individual names, but it’s Boaster on the right. And Dilk on the left.DSCF6780Don’t know who but it’s fresh. I’m almost up to date since my holiday, apart from all the ones I haven’t got to yet!

Roadtrippin’

DSCF1732Been on a few road trips recently 2 to a place I’d been before and a third to a new (to me) spot and I went with a few friends this time. Found this Boaster piece, wish I’d seen it intact.

DSCF1736Somehow I managed to miss this magnificent Tekonta Secta piece on my first visit.

DSCF1811Love this wall and the reflection made my day.

DSCF1879Fancy seeing him here, he looks surprised to see me too!

DSCF2433Felt very privileged to watch Fauna Graphic work, and I witnessed her near death experience when some slates from the roof decided to relocate themselves to the inside of the building exactly where she was painting! Dangerous business this sometimes.

DSCF2461The finished piece ‘Nature Nurse’, a great new character I hope to see again.

DSCF2441A dark piece by CoLor at the entrance of a rather strange tunnel.

DSCF2542Foundry was practising a piece for an upcoming huge wall project in Wolverhampton.

DSCF2574Fauna and Color collaboration, Meerkats and a Great Tit, accompanied by a strange chap in a mask, obviously. Favourite shot of that day, when asked if I wanted to see the mask, this was totally not what I expected.

DSCF3208I’d love to know who did this, there’s no sign of a name on it, I like it, a lot.

DSCF3248Fame kills, apparently, set up for  a model shoot perhaps?

DSCF3370I spy with my little eye…

DSCF3377Him again!

DSCF3380Color and Nymph, good to watch her style and confidence improving with each piece she does.

Hopefully will be revisiting these places soon, can’t wait to see what’s new!
