Due to bad weather Sharrow Festival is postponed until 22 August, gutted, but I suppose I should make the most of getting up to date with sorting my photos. D7606 waiting for a call from Sid and Nancy on the other side.Found this while hunting dragons. A few weeks ago, I spotted a mural I hadn’t seen before in my fair city, by two of my favourite none Sheffield artists, Kid30 and Boaster. So I proudly, feeling quite pleased with myself, posted the pic on Instagram, and Boaster says “Did you get a picture of the dragon?”! There’s a dragon?….Well it took a while, but I got there in the end, well chuffed! 🙂I thought this was Cantastic Art, turns out I was right, had to happen one day! Looking forward to bit of decent weather, it’s always better for painting!
Apologies in advance for not knowing who most of the artists are in this post. While Bristol is synonymous with Streetart, there is also lots of top quality graffiti, to say the scene is thriving is a bit of an understatement. This tunnel gets a very regular makeover, visited on Thursday, all painted over on Saturday.I do like stickers paste ups and slaps, saw a fair amount of these Loqui the Roman……and lots of Angryface stickers too, so much so I’m beginning to wonder if he’s relocated. There seems to be little time or interest in having beef here, nothing stays around long enough. One, of many from the Hall of Fame.I’m sure there’s a story behind this…Sled One fantastic wall at the Deaner, gone within a week of me taking this photo I think. Love this little guy!Oky and ?Trust me, I wept, still not fluent in reading letters 😦 P.S. Just been informed it says RAW 3SoakZiner,one of my (many) favourite pieces from the day.As was this…And this. passed this piece in the morning and due to the traffic, struggled to get a decent shot of it, this will have to do, by the time we came back to it, it had gone!Saw quite a bit of work from this artist Aspire, really like it.Last but by no means least, this gorgeous Raven By Shab, whose help was invaluable in enabling us to find our way around and get to see as much as we did in the time that we had.
Bristol, you were awesome, I do hope I get to visit you again!
So, I got the chance to go to Bristol, well, I grabbed it with both hands! There is so much to see it is mind boggling. I took over a 1000 photos, I’m still sorting through them. Apologies in advance for not knowing the names of all the artists.Mr Ricks, part of great wall in the St Pauls area.Dora, awesome piece, not so awesome photo due to the parked cars, my excuse and I’m sticking to it.Flava 36, loved this character, saw him in a few spots. Burning Candy, splendid, why can’t every building be painted like this 🙂Banksy, when in Rome and all that…Cosmo Sarson, fantastic, I defy anyone to not smile when they see this!Stood ages waiting for the sun to go in, to get a decent shot of this, it was worth it though 🙂3Dom, thought I recognised this, and then realised I’d seen this artist in action at City of Colours. The Lakota nightclub, featuring the work of Epok, Soker, Cheo, 3Dom, Sepr, Jody and others. Robbie the Robot, a real blast from the past! I found something indicating this might be an artist called Paris, but can’t find any verification, and googling Paris Bristol really doesn’t help…Pixel Pancho, first one I’ve seen in the flesh. Aryz, first one I’ve seen in the flesh.Conor Harrington, first one I’ve seen in the flesh, even if it was at a distance through mesh and a fence.Mariusz Waras, Nick Walker and El Mac, this whole street was just staggering, nearly broke my neck more than once, because I was too busy looking up.Cheo, hiphop Wallace and Gromit, ace!Funky zebra by Trix. Dale Grimshaw, beautiful.Herakut, my brains melting.Andrew Burns Colwill, wonderful piece featuring the famous Bristol crocodile 😉 Stephen Quick, portrait of Benedict Cumberbatch.Soker and Cheo, Mysterio vs Spiderman. Dank, thought this piece was amazing, again had to wait for the sun to go in before I could get a decent shot.Whoam Irony, another first for me.
I know a fair few of these pieces have been widely seen online, but I’m putting them on here because I went and stood in front of them and it was great to be able to do that and to appreciate them in a whole new light. The two days were exhausting but totally unforgettable, thank you to the two people who made it all possible, I am forever in your debt. I will be doing another post on Bristol after my next Sheffield blog, showing some of the less well known pieces.
For the second year running the wonderful people at the Nursery Tavern on Ecclesall Road held the Art in the Garden jam organised by My Life Project. A great turn out once again, with a few new faces, along with the local artists.Trik9 took a break from sorting his exhibition to join the fun.Great to see Bine in action too.Good to see my old friend on it, no longer resident in Sheffield but always turns up to a jam. Black, I think, lovely chap!Meth, awesomeness inspired by the Arctic Monkeys’ lyrics, and an amazing Ice Cube portrait by Pawski.CoLor made a colourful splash as always. 🙂 Hadn’t seen Espre in ages, really good to see him, bangin’ piece too. Trik9 finished piece.Britney came and did her thang, what a star!A feast for the eyes.Hyro, finished piece, seen some of his work in Leeds I think, I’ve got a thing about pigeons, many people hate ’em, but not me.The only piece not finished on the day was by Kisk, but seeing as he was the one who organised the whole event and one very busy chap with his work at My Life Project at the best of times, I can let him off, this time…..
Art in the Garden will be on again next year, try and make it if you can, it’s a really nice chilled day out. But in the meantime check out MLP they are involved in some fantastic community projects and workshops.
