Goodnight Mr Heathcote

Once upon a time there was a woman who made an amazing discovery ( to her)… 0f an artist called Phlegm… and the rest, as they say, is history…

A very important part of that history evolves around one building A. R.Heathcote…                                                                    DSCF1628my first urbex….. .        DSCF6347 my first hidden Phlegm and Rocket01…      DSCF6323my first Fauna…      DSCF6333It could even be Phlegms first painting spot, got to be a very early one anyway.

DSCF0171Tekonta Secta, yes really.                                                     DSCF3340Following a partial demolition of the site, the place became a little more airy, but at least it was easier to photograph the ‘Beauty is a Beast’ in all it’s glory 🙂                                                                   DSCF1103The walls were still quite bare, I would visit regularly just to see if anything new had appeared.

DSCF6197Kid Acne was quite a regular visitor too.

DSCF3346But Phlegm was the busiest I think.

DSCF6641More artists began to visit the site, Perms went large.

DSCF7455The Phlegm and Rocket wall was painted over, initially with a Kid Acne x EMA x Drot collab  (there were tears, I can tell you!) and then this appeared by… mmm ..I wonder…

DSCF6640Dscreet painted one of his signature owls, I was quite giddy about this.

DSCF2554Absolutely loved this, it was ages before I knew who did it, Jay Sharples.

DSCF2552Mr Wolf, used to be all over the place.

It was a nightmare going through photos for this, my biggest ever post, I’ll be bound to have put someone out and I apologise for that. I have 6 years of photos from this place, literally thousands. I really had a connection with it, rats, crack heads and all, and I am gutted at it’s loss.

DSCF3452  DSCF3558

I haven’t included pics from the boards or the Niche wall, they’re worthy of a post on their own though, if anyone’s interested.

Below is a link that tells you about the industrial history of Heathcotes, includes pre-graffiti pics http://www.28dayslater.co.uk/a-r-heathcote-cutlers-sheffield.t21572

Sleeep well Mr Heathcote, I for one will miss you.

Summer’s Postponed!

Due to bad weather Sharrow Festival is postponed until 22 August, gutted, but I suppose I should make the most of getting up to date with  sorting my photos.  DSCF3436D7606 waiting for a call from Sid and Nancy on the other side.DSCF3265Found this while hunting dragons. DSCF3252 StitchA few weeks ago, I spotted a mural I hadn’t seen before in my fair city, by two of my favourite none Sheffield artists, Kid30 and Boaster. So I proudly, feeling quite pleased with myself, posted the pic on Instagram, and Boaster says “Did you get a picture of the dragon?”! There’s a dragon?….Well it took a while, but I got there in the end, well chuffed! 🙂DSCF3244I thought this was Cantastic Art, turns out I was right, had to happen one day! DSCF3197 StitchFoundry and See(the rarely seen! 😉 ) collaboration, need more of these. DSCF3188Stunning Octopus by CoLor. DSCF2923PeteFowler, a Welsh Artist, came to Sheffield and made this. DSCF2917C***face by Obit, I know I should know better, but I absolutely love it! DSCF2915Kisk x Meth x STOG x Trik9, good to see these guys keeping busy. I photographed this in rush hour traffic and do have to thank various motorists for not running me over and one even stopped so I could get a clear shot!DSCF2904I don’t know who did this, but I think it’s great. DSCF2886Perhaps this post should come with a Parental Advisory rating! DSCF2882Some feeling the green.DSCF2859Like this, whatever it says 🙂 DSCF2832Gums, simple but effective and always make me smile 🙂DSCF2813 StitchDenta x Earth x Teml, probably….DSCF2802Pawski and Shoe go seriously large with this wonderful piece on a pretty unusual canvas. Looking forward to  bit of decent weather, it’s always better for painting!

Happy October!

DSCF5031After 2 weekends lurking in Birmingham and a broadband connection that keeps feeling nostalgic and replicating the golden age of dial up internet, I find I’ve got a bit of a backlog. So this is a larger than normal Sheffield post while I try to get back on track.

Stickers, some people hate them, I love them, especially when there’s little collections of them, this set includes D7606, C3, Rubix, Zabou and Greenz.DSCF5025Brayk, a man of many words. DSCF5010 StitchDouble Meth, twice the fun!DSCF5003Byne, been a bit quiet lately, working on a new project perhaps.DSCF5002Like this, don’t know who it is though.DSCF4974Part of the wonderful Rocket01 and Mila K collaboration piece. Dayrider, £4 Citywide Tour

DSCF8973On my travels found this beauty by C3, looks like she’s becoming a regular visitor to Sheffield, all good  🙂DSCF8902Something fishy about this Coloquix piece, not a cat in sight.DSCF8894Funny what you can find when you fall through a doorway, not sure how old this Sour x Narke collab is, but I wouldn’t have found it otherwise!DSCF8890I do like these cheeky chimps by Xhastexo, he’s got quite a collection I think.DSCF8882Sico trying something a little different, I’m a fan!DSCF8868I’m really loving these new characters from Eug, can’t believe some numpty dogged it within a week…DSCF8919Big Mouth by Rateone, I’ve seen a photo of a piece he did out of Sheffield where he made use of a doorway in a similar fashion, so glad he’s done one here.DSCF8933Greenz and Brisk, gloriously green!DSCF8947 StitchNOFX x Dyson, The Deadly Type, quality. DSCF8964After a short sabbatical, Gzos has risen again. Praise be!DSCF8970Recreating one of the prints from his recent exhibition, Kid Acnes’ Ping Pong Girls.

Mustn’t grumble about a day out for £4, always lots to see, but it would be nice if they had toilets and perhaps a mini bar on the tram…

City Boredom Breaker

DSCF8359Due to the abjectly miserable weather didn’t venture far on my last wander, still, there’s plenty to see in the centre of town. Seeing this name appearing more and more around the city, Rime.DSCF8457Not sure if this was a deliberate collaboration or an accidental coming together of EMA, Kid Acne and Kent, like it though.DSCF8450My second near death experience of the year,or at least it would have been if I’d been daft enough to get off the makeshift ladder onto the rotten floor. Love this Zinc piece.DSCF8440Wish I knew who this was by, but I don’t. Thanks 😀 I now know it’s Sico.DSCF8428Rayna, a little different from his usual letters.DSCF8424Brisk,another writer becoming more visible in town. Variety is the spice of life and all that, good to have some fresh talent.DSCF8420Ogosh, as in ogosh that’s rather good! DSCF8406Narke, 4 tin burn, wicked colour scheme.DSCF8405A marvellous piece from Dyson, a master of his craft.DSCF8465 StitchPopped in to Kid Acnes exhibition, met the man himself, definitely worth a visit.DSCF8515Avoided near death experiences 3 and 4 by keeping my feet firmly on the ground to catch these Eug pieces, I’ll leave the climbing to those younger and fitter than me.DSCF8497DSCF8528Lastly on my little wander I revisited a Phlegm piece that has been ravaged by nature to fantastic effect. I was still pulling thorns out of my legs when I went to bed, but I figured it was worth it 🙂

Just A Walkin’ In The Sunshine

DSCF8195 StitchCheeky little hidden piece this, by Skint, worth braving the brambles for though.DSCF8198Took some pics of this awesome piece by Naked Mercury, who asked me not to post any shots of the piece before it was finished, well it’s finished now 🙂DSCF8219I worry about Coloquix sometimes, inspired by tarot cards or a fascination with bondage, you decide! DSCF8226 StitchEug and CoLor Art, handy in any situation…DSCF8241Little sticky Tekonta Secta.DSCF8246 Stitch4Eyes and Tony C**t, yes that’s what it says.DSCF8253Toupe, from the north east I think, has paid us a visit again, I do like his work.DSCF8265I do know who did this, I think, but I’m not sure of his name, love the skulls though. What I meant to say was, I couldn’t remember his name, but I’ve been reminded, it’s ne_illustration.DSCF8275 Bob and the low winter sun.DSCF8291Rayna,quite an old one, clearly I don’t get out enough.DSCF8309Mars,not a new one, just took me ages to find it, and I only fell down one hole.DSCF8357I adore kid Acnes’ stabby women, there’s a new batch out and about, and he’s got an exhibition on here http://www.bandbgallery.com/future-exhibition-standard-practice-by-kid-acne well worth a visit.

All in all a pleasant day out even if I did look a bit of a prat with my one very muddy knee on the tram.

Waders Not Included

DSCF8162So it’s throwing it down, freezing cold, howling gale, time to go hunting for a piece next to a swollen river, obviously. I guess there are worse things to have as your last view on the world than a cat-carrying water siren by Coloquix.DSCF8174 StitchGzos, Pawski and Shoe, another awesome wall to brighten the city centre.DSCF8185Stabby women, the new batch from Kid Acne, particularly liking the unicorn.DSCF8152Not an especially new Xhastexo and Bine collaboration, but a really good one.DSCF8112Espre, first one of the year, one of many I hope.DSCF8111Almost impossible to comprehend that this is a first piece by an artist, but the Inksurgeon, as his name suggests, normally performs wonders on a much smaller scale. It’s not bad for a debut (!), wonder what he’ll do next…DSCF8091I never was a fan of the Muppets, the only characters I ever really liked were Waldorf and Statler, Rateone must have read my mind!DSCF8107Saul Goodman from Breaking Bad, another cracker from Pawski.DSCF8108Skull by Mace, crikey what a scorcher.DSCF8085 StitchSkint and Sour collab, apologies for the poor pic, but they will paint in such awkward places!.DSCF8021Gradually disappearing as is the nature of all things graffiti, the first cat/manatee by Phlegm. Although as some pieces go this is probably antique.DSCF8150Some of Sheffields up and coming, mixed with a few that have been around a while, don’t think that slow fellow will go far though…

Can somebody do something to stop all this rain please, I think I’m starting with trenchfoot. Thank you! 🙂

My Milkshake Brings All The Boys To The Yard…

DSCF7315 StitchThis is what I’ve seen on very recent expeditions. Sour, pushing boundaries with this piece that looks like it’s raised up from the wall.DSCF7286Alex Ekins, little fox, lovely.DSCF7318 StitchKid Acne x Petro, for reasons I don’t understand, a bit of a ‘marmite’ wall.DSCF7381 StitchH2i (Pawski, Mace, Mars) and TIO (Gzos, Jaer) came together for this fantastic tribute marking the tragic extinction in the wild of the Black Rhino.DSCF7454Trex, not a regular contributor to city centre walls, more usually seen on the outskirts. I have now been informed that this is a different Trex and the original is not impressed.DSCF7457Cantastic Art has taken to night time manoeuvres recently, must be sponsored by a carrot farmer!DSCF7464Boaster MTH did this sneaky little character on a recent visit to Sheffield, love it!DSCF7267This wonderful owl, something a little different from Mars, awesome.DSCF7493Managed to catch two of the H2i fellows working on this stunner of a wall featuring Chali 2Na, (I confess, I had never heard of him, but the likeness is amazing!) DSCF7500The finished wall by Shoe and Pawski, completed just as it went dark, lucky to get a half decent shot thanks to fading light and dying camera batteries.DSCF7302And finally… another Bunny!
