Birmingham City of Colours

So me and my little dog (who had chronic wind by the way!) got on a train to Birmingham to see what all this City of Colours business was all about. I have to say that not having been to Brum on a graff mission before I was instantly pleasantly surprised and actually veered off the COC path for a couple hours looking at all there was to see, and there was a lot, I’ll cover that in a separate post.  DSCF3770This lovely lady by N4T4 was the first official COC piece that I saw.DSCF4001 StitchThis wonderful board wall was not an ‘official’ part of COC but hey it’s not a bad thing that everyone wanted to be involved.DSCF4022 StitchTizer and Gent 48 among others joined in the fun.DSCF4046The amazing work of Jimmy C, I’ve never seen it up close before, stunning.DSCF4047Dscreet, love all his work but my favourites are the owls.DSCF4058Spotted at the Custard Factory.DSCF4070Everywhere I turned there was a wall being painted.DSCF4101 StitchNHS crew.DSCF4111Corpse, the largest one I’ve seen.DSCF4125Loved this ladys’ work apologies for not knowing her name.DSCF4148Philth, on form as always.DSCF4154The Stencil Shed, not his real name, and I didn’t see a stencil either.DSCF4158Ennui, gutted I didn’t get to see this finished.DSCF4167 StitchMore awesomeness.DSCF4172I’m sure he didn’t do all of this with a pen.DSCF4357Skema, paintaholic  🙂DSCF4383Enzime, really like this.DSCF4390Bill Giles and PM(?)DSCF4410Andy Council, sponsored by Mr Whippy 😉DSCF4445Steve Edwards beautiful study of Kingfishers playing leapfrog.DSCF4453Lost Souls epic production.DSCF4456 StitchSPZero76, not just a figment of my Instagram!DSCF4461 StitchMade You Look, yes it did.DSCF4463Lisk Bot, very fond of these handsome robots.DSCF4480Rmer1, blooming marvellous.DSCF4482Loved this…DSCF4496….and this…DSCF4507Si2, I’m sure he’d not arrived by the time I went home, but he must have been there somewhere.DSCF4529Delightfully different.DSCF4192CoLor, Eug, Corpse and Tekonta Secta fantastic collaboration.DSCF4177Privileged to see Hoakser in action.DSCF4412 StitchTitle and Jim Vision, I’m running out of superlatives!DSCF4532Mila Ks’ luscious ladies guarding the entrance to the Custard Factory….

….There was more, much more, so much I didn’t even get to see all of it. For a first attempt I would say this was a roaring success, and City of Colours 2 is already booked in for next September. Congratulations to the organisers for a spectacular event. I’m sure I’ll be back, not sure about the dog though, had to sit in the bike racks on the train home…

Journey To The Dark Side

DSCF2796Decided to take a trip over to Manchester, long overdue for a visit, and of course had to go and see the piece by Mila K.DSCF2785Excellent capture of Nelson Mandela by Akse P19.DSCF2783Something a little different for C3 I think, really liking this.DSCF2782Wonderfully surreal piece on the shutters of the former Mooch gallery.DSCF2780Good to see that an original Brickz piece is still almost intact.DSCF2771Frogs, I like frogs 🙂DSCF2761 StitchPart of the Toaster wall, it was huge but has been gone over in one section.DSCF2758Mr Penfold, cheeky chappy. DSCF2753Ghostpatrol with a stunning wall in the Northern Quarter.DSCF2729D7606, quite near to his home territory I think, mind you he gets about.DSCF27225ifur, perhaps.DSCF2707Strange graffiti, not that unusual 😉DSCF2693Tirion Lannister by Akse P19. I don’t often feature an artist twice in one blog post, but this is fantastic and it is such a shame that many of his characters have been dogged. DSCF2677Spotted in a carpark.DSCF2675Boeuf!DSCF2672Cool sticker/ pasteup.DSCF2664Don’ Sleep, by Sneak, good to see him back on it.DSCF2812Tankpetrol, beautiful.DSCF2798Another favourite from the Northern Quarter.DSCF2666Tony Wilson, founder of the Hacienda, immortalised by Stewy. Only found this because I got lost, wouldn’t be a day out if I didn’t get lost at least once.

Had a really good day which only the weather could spoil, and it did, my little dog nearly disappeared in a puddle and was seriously not happy. Had to share my Burgerking with her to cheer her up.

Whistle Stop

DSCF1743Paid a brief visit to Peace in the Park, met up with a few friends who were having a very good time! CoLor Meth and Mila K found time to have a paint while they were there and I think the posing peoples were in a band,DSCF1737Spotted a few of these about, don’t know who did them.DSCF1731Eug with one of his awesome characters.DSCF1727Stewy paid us a visit to drop this stencil featuring Jarvis Cocker, one of several different characters he’s done in various locations on the route of the Tour de France.DSCF1717Lovely tribute piece to the late Patrick Moore by Rocket01.DSCF1708 StitchKosh and…., I’m not guessing…DSCF1700I don’t know who did this either, but I do think it’s quite sweet.DSCF1671Venom, by Mace, superbly gruesome.DSCF1801Jiro?DSCF1819Angry Kitty (not it’s real name) by Mila K.DSCF1822Rambo and Nofx doing what they do best.DSCF1864Pretty lady by Black.DSCF1909C3 pasteup being reclaimed by nature.DSCF1874Don’t know who but much like.DSCF1875Love this too.DSCF1674I love my graff and I’m constantly amazed at the quality of work produced in this city, but I don’t often go wow! anymore, I did when I first saw this. I do have a bit of a soft spot for anything Batman related, but this is truly special.

“When are you going to stop writing on the walls and make some money”

DSCF0593Jaers very clever tribute to Beat Street, with a little help from Kisk, recreating a piece by Ramon whose work was tagged by the infamous Spit! Must confess I haven’t seen this film, I’ll put it on my list.DSCF0096Eug x Mila x CoLor Art, quite a busy trio lately, love this….DSCF0221…And this by Eug x Mila x Color too!DSCF0192A taster of Mila Ks’ secret Konfess Exhibition, featuring the seven deadly sins. To appreciate this fully you should blink rapidly to recreate the strobe effect, that was brilliant but slightly disorienting on the day!DSCF0177Bine x Xhastexo, love the mixture of styles with these guys.DSCF0157Alien by Mase, stunning awesomeness!DSCF0151Marilyn by Pawski, his best yet in my opinion, simply jaw dropping.DSCF0484CoLor Art painted this handsome Troll, my new girl Stella is keeping him under control, I’d wanted her to sit with Alien, but he was far too scary 😉 DSCF0584 StitchI’ve an idea who did these, not least because I saw them doing it, but I’m not risking getting the names wrong. DSCF0052Obviously the Volt sticker is by Volt, but I have no clue as to who did the character.DSCF0234And finally this curious stencil, it’s odd but I like it.

My next post will have a slightly Antipodean flavour, good times 🙂

It’s All Going On

DSCF8582Don’t know the name of this artist, but I know he’s got a beard, if that helps…DSCF8585Brisk, appropriate name, he’s all over the place at the moment, very brisk indeed. DSCF8609Health and Safety advice, ‘Try not to face plant’ !DSCF8616The legend that is Form been back around these parts recently.DSCF8631Enoesir or Riseone if you prefer.DSCF8661Rocket01, back with a bang, really good to see that he reclaimed this spot too after his previous piece was unceremoniously destroyed with a chainsaw.DSCF8670Bob with his little red devil, don’t know if the other character has a name.DSCF8758Trik9 and Meth got the moody blues in town, love it.DSCF8776C3 /D7606 pasteup collaboration in a rather random place.DSCF8789 Stitch (5000x1613)Evo and Mars H2i, BS production, strong with the force these ones are.DSCF8720Anyone who didn’t make it to the Mardy Arts Exhibition at Stripping The Willow, here is a taster of what you missed. the above wall was painted by Booms and CoLor especially for the event.

DSCF8699 DSCF8698

Just some of the loveliness available from Mila KDSCF8702A bit of a poor quality photo of a Mila piece and the jawdropping work from Booms.

DSCF8708 DSCF8697CoLor Art put together a stunning collection, but the characterised gas bottles were my favourite. ( And it is my birthday soon, hint hint.  😉 ) DSCF8703Faunagraphic had these gorgeous canvases in the exhibition, and they looked much more beautiful in the flesh rather than in this pic. It was a great little event and hopefully there will be more to come. Nice to see local artists showing their work in this way. I’m gutted that I didn’t make it down to Phlegms exhibition in London, finger crossed I make it to the next one.

Winter Wonders

DSCF7888 StitchFinished and the scaffolding gone at last, this is a really impressive wall at the Hubs.DSCF7895Foundry braved the cold and rain to create this masterpiece only to have the downpour wash away his efforts so he had to go back and do it all again! I think it was worth the effort though 😉DSCF7964Mr Kent has been making these figures appear around the city centre for some time, a sculptor by trade, I’m guessing these pasteups are from photos of his sculptures, I think they’re ace.DSCF7955 StitchaNarke, Wrest1 and Skan worked on this amazing collaboration, I love the colours, inspired by the temperature perhaps?DSCF7932Xhastexo has created a lovable little character that I hope we’ll be seeing a lot more of.DSCF7937I’m very partial to a bit of Bob.DSCF8009Mila K x Narke, just keep getting better.DSCF7996Some usually does pieces that are really multi coloured and  eyecatching, this one’s a little more subtle but really good.DSCF8005Black and Meth from Angry Perverts (love that name!), bootiful!

I must say that with one thing and another I’ve been struggling to get myself out and about,I’m really happy that the miserable weather isn’t holding our artists and writers back one bit!
