Sheffields Answer To Felm

I’m Still Here, Honest!

Well, I’ve been trying to work on this blog for almost a fortnight, but due to my internet going all nostalgic for the days of dial up, it’s been a fairly hopeless task! Anyway in other news, saw this lovely octopus by XBN7.Rateones’ monster has had an interesting makeover . Art In The Garden 2

For the second year running the wonderful people at the Nursery Tavern on Ecclesall Road held the Art in the Garden jam organised by My Life Project. A great turn out once again, with a few new faces, along with the local artists.Trik9 took a break from sorting his exhibition to join the fun.Great to see Bine in action too.Good to see my old friend on it, no longer resident in Sheffield but always turns up to a jam. Black, I think, lovely chap!Meth, awesomeness inspired by the Arctic Monkeys’ lyrics, and an amazing Ice Cube portrait by Pawski.CoLor made a colourful splash as always.  🙂 Hadn’t seen Espre in ages, really good to see him, bangin’ piece too.  Trik9 finished piece.Britney came and did her thang, what a star!A feast for the eyes.Hyro, finished piece, seen some of his work in Leeds I think, I’ve got a thing about pigeons, many people hate ’em, but not me.The only piece not finished on the day was by Kisk, but seeing as he was the one who organised the whole event and one very busy chap with his work at My Life Project at the best of times, I can let him off, this time…..

Art in the Garden will be on again next year, try and make it if you can, it’s a really nice chilled day out. But in the meantime check out MLP they are involved in some fantastic community projects and workshops.

Brum Brum!

Although it was City of Colours that got me down to Birmingham, I did have a little wander to see some of the other sights of the city, well graff sites that is……How fitting to find Brum in Brum!Found a cheeky Bint around the back of a derelict factory. Wise words indeed.Omeza, a new name to me, really like his style. Large stencil of a child or a small man, you decide. Good little urbex spot well trashed, just how I like it. 🙂Another Omeza stunner, it was a wonderful surprise to find this.Roid MSK, next level.The Infamous Vomet.Lisk Bot, my hero!Super Shady One Amp.Stoe, up and down the M1 on a regular basis I think.Pref,I got chills…Hores? Gent48, wonderful!

Lews and Skank, so clever this, love it!Very special place, some truly amazing work.Everybody loves babies, right?Tame was a 16 year old graffiti writer who died doing what he loved,so sad. Nice to see that this has remained untouched.

So Birmingham, it’s worth a visit, seriously.

Let The Rhythm Hit ‘Em!

Trik9, one of the nicest guys in graff, only went and put on an exhibition, no way I was going to miss it!The venue was Menzels and  the staff were very accommodating.There were 14 pieces in total, all awesome.Letters and characters, top notch beauties in his distinctive style.The works were displayed all around the bar.It was clear that Trik9 had spent a lot of time and effort on this, his first solo show.I think this piece was my favourite, absolutely stunning.I’m not entirely sure how a 7 to smoke works( showing my age 😉  ), but it was great. Superstar Mc Nige was on hand to compere with Duscky and Bill Gert providing the tunes for the dance off.

Love this face! Good to see a lady representing too. And of course Trik9 had to have a go once the competition was over (to show them how it’s done! ;))Trik9 had been hard at it all day and with the help of family,friends and colleagues he’d done a cracking job. I did manage to get a decent photo of the man himself before we headed for home. Well done Sir! A great night for a great artist, what’s next?

After 2 weekends lurking in Birmingham and a broadband connection that keeps feeling nostalgic and replicating the golden age of dial up internet, I find I’ve got a bit of a backlog. So this is a larger than normal Sheffield post while I try to get back on track.

Birmingham City of Colours

So me and my little dog (who had chronic wind by the way!) got on a train to Birmingham to see what all this City of Colours business was all about. I have to say that not having been to Brum on a graff mission before I was instantly pleasantly surprised and actually veered off the COC path for a couple hours looking at all there was to see, and there was a lot, I’ll cover that in a separate post.  This lovely lady by N4T4 was the first official COC piece that I saw.This wonderful board wall was not an ‘official’ part of COC but hey it’s not a bad thing that everyone wanted to be involved.Tizer and Gent 48 among others joined in the fun.The amazing work of Jimmy C, I’ve never seen it up close before, stunning.Dscreet, love all his work but my favourites are the owls.Spotted at the Custard Factory.Everywhere I turned there was a wall being painted.NHS crew.Corpse, the largest one I’ve seen.Loved this ladys’ work apologies for not knowing her name.Philth, on form as always.The Stencil Shed, not his real name, and I didn’t see a stencil either.Ennui, gutted I didn’t get to see this finished.More awesomeness.I’m sure he didn’t do all of this with a pen.Skema, paintaholic  🙂Enzime, really like this.Bill Giles and PM(?)Andy Council, sponsored by Mr Whippy 😉Steve Edwards beautiful study of Kingfishers playing leapfrog.Lost Souls epic production.SPZero76, not just a figment of my Instagram!Made You Look, yes it did.Lisk Bot, very fond of these handsome robots.Rmer1, blooming marvellous.Loved this…….and this…Si2, I’m sure he’d not arrived by the time I went home, but he must have been there somewhere.Delightfully different.CoLor, Eug, Corpse and Tekonta Secta fantastic collaboration.Privileged to see Hoakser in action.Title and Jim Vision, I’m running out of superlatives!Mila Ks’ luscious ladies guarding the entrance to the Custard Factory….

Congratulations to the organisers for a spectacular event. I’m sure I’ll be back, not sure about the dog though, had to sit in the bike racks on the train home…

Rainbow Rambo!Sour taking it easy,yes I know it’s an old one,but I don’t get out much. 😉Wonderful piece by Rocket 01 and Faunagraphic, spent ages looking for this, in all the wrong places.I spied a Foundry piece on his all weather wall. Sico, Skint and Suek freedom wall for Fista. Some keeping it colourful.Found a cheeky little Corpse sticker.Surge, Pawski and Mace beautiful memorial piece.Body Snachaz, Mars alligator. Really like this quirky little fellow.Not a brilliant photo but I didn’t have my tripod, love this piece by CoLor. Handsome chap isn’t he?As if!

Oh and if you were wondering, I recently found a FB page for Street Art Heidelberg that had an H2i production, painted in Sheffield, as it’s banner, I never knew I was in Germany, did you?

Journey To The Dark Side

Decided to take a trip over to Manchester, long overdue for a visit, and of course had to go and see the piece by Mila K.Excellent capture of Nelson Mandela by Akse P19.Something a little different for C3 I think, really liking this.Wonderfully surreal piece on the shutters of the former Mooch gallery.Good to see that an original Brickz piece is still almost intact.Frogs, I like frogs 🙂Part of the Toaster wall, it was huge but has been gone over in one section.Mr Penfold,cheeky chappy. Ghostpatrol with a stunning wall in the Northern Quarter.D7606, quite near to his home territory I think, mind you he gets about.5ifur, perhaps.Strange graffiti, not that unusual 😉Tirion Lannister by Akse P19. I don’t often feature an artist twice in one blog post, but this is fantastic and it is such a shame that many of his characters have been dogged. Spotted in a carpark.Boeuf!Cool sticker/ pasteup.Don’ Sleep, by Sneak, good to see him back on it.Tankpetrol, beautiful.Another favourite from the Northern Quarter.Tony Wilson, founder of the Hacienda, immortalised by Stewy. Only found this because I got lost, wouldn’t be a day out if I didn’t get lost at least once.

Had a really good day which only the weather could spoil, and it did, my little dog nearly disappeared in a puddle and was seriously not happy. Had to share my Burgerking with her to cheer her up.
